About the role
TL;DR
Build and lead Modern Treasury's risk function, defining policies for underwriting, transaction risk, and fraud detection.
- •Modern Treasury is hiring a Head of Risk to build our risk function from the ground up.
- •This is a foundational, hands-on role where you will decide how customers are underwritten, how limits and reserves are set, and how transactions are authorized.
- •Key Responsibilities Build and own customer onboarding and underwriting processes.
- •Define and manage transaction risk, limits, reserves, and exposure policies.
- •Select and deploy tooling for automated decisioning and fraud detection.
- •Expand risk management to new rails, stablecoins, and wallet controls.
- •Requirements Experience building a risk function at an early-stage or high-growth company.
- •Specific expertise in payments risk (ACH returns, settlement timing, unauthorized debits).
- •Strong technical and data fluency, including SQL and ideally Python.
- •Systems thinking and ability to design for scale.
