TL;DR
Lead research on infrastructure risk and resilience using advanced modeling and machine learning.
- •Neara is building physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids using advanced machine learning.
- •This role will lead the internal research group focusing on system resilience, reliability, and policy, translating findings into actionable tools and recommendations for utilities.
- •Key Responsibilities Build and lead Neara’s applied research function for infrastructure risk and resilience.
- •Develop predictive models for equipment damage, vegetation failure, outage likelihood, and wildfire risk.
- •Design decision models to quantify the economic consequences of resilience investments.
- •Quantify the value of data, inspections, and interventions.
- •Requirements PhD in statistics, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, operations research, engineering, or a comparable record of original research.
- •Evidence of independently defining and leading a substantial research program.
- •Experienced in building technical teams and setting research direction.
- •Extensive experience in probabilistic modeling, uncertainty quantification, and decision-making under incomplete information.
- •Substantial experience modeling operational systems (e.g., insurance, catastrophe modeling, power systems).
