About the role

TL;DR

Provide legal advice on Spanish employment law and manage related matters.

  • SumUp is expanding its European Employment Law team with a dedicated Employment Counsel based in Barcelona to support significant growth.
  • This role will take primary responsibility for day-to-day Spanish employment law matters, collaborating with local teams and European colleagues.
  • Key Responsibilities Provide practical, day-to-day legal advice on Spanish employment law across the employee lifecycle.
  • Draft and review employment contracts, policies and other employment documentation.
  • Support Works Council consultations and collective employment matters.
  • Advise on disciplinary matters, terminations, mutual separation agreements and organisational change.
  • Manage external counsel for specialist support or litigation when needed.
  • Requirements Qualified lawyer in Spain with 3–6 years of experience, with a strong focus on Spanish employment law.
  • Experience advising HR and business stakeholders on practical, commercial matters.
  • Track record drafting employment contracts and managing employment disputes.
  • Comfort supporting Works Council relations and collective consultation processes.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
