About the role
TL;DR
Manage the AI Dev Tools team, owning the agentic coding platform and its infrastructure.
- •AI Dev Tools builds the platform Gusto engineers use to work with AI, not just alongside it: agentic coding environments, automated AI code review, and the CI/security infrastructure underneath both.
- •You'll own this platform end-to-end, from product strategy to infrastructure and team building.
- •Key Responsibilities Own the agentic coding roadmap and set direction for interactive and autonomous agent modes.
- •Drive the accuracy and coverage roadmap for agentic code review, making trade-offs between quality, speed, and cost.
- •Set the security and risk posture for autonomous coding agents, defining sandboxing and permission models.
- •Lead and grow a team of senior engineers working across ambiguous, fast-moving problem spaces.
- •Partner with engineering leadership on the future of AI-native software development at Gusto.
- •Requirements 8+ years of engineering people leadership experience, managing senior engineers through ambiguous technical problems.
- •Direct, hands-on experience with agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex).
- •Experience owning significant vendor or infrastructure contracts.
- •Comfort making autonomy/risk tradeoff calls on AI systems.
- •Track record of leading through ambiguity across multiple problem domains.
