About the role
TL;DR
Staff Software Engineer to own and define developer environments at scale.
- •As a Staff Engineer on Dev Environments, you'll be recognized as an expert across the dev environments space, owning technical direction and unblocking cross-cutting technical problems.
- •You'll partner with leadership to translate developer-experience problems into a concrete technical strategy.
- •Key Responsibilities Define the architecture for how thousands of engineers develop and ship code, including local and remote dev containers and the full local-to-remote loop.
- •Build monorepo dev tooling at scale, setting the standard for consolidating companies under DoorDash's umbrella.
- •Provision production-shaped environments in seconds, keeping state in sync and making remote machines feel local at scale.
- •Design for AI agents as first-class consumers of the environment, creating sandboxes that spin up on demand and are safe to hand a real repo.
- •Support agents launched from an IDE, a CLI, or a Slack message.
- •Requirements Track record of shipping production systems and leading cross-team initiatives with group-level impact.
- •Hands-on fluency with languages and tooling for developer tooling (e.g., Go, Python, TypeScript) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
- •Experience managing compute via Kubernetes or lightweight VM/sandbox technology (e.g., Firecracker).
- •Working knowledge of cloud networking, including securely and cost-effectively routing traffic across network boundaries.
- •Experience integrating LLM/AI tooling into developer workflows.
