Litigate and advocate to challenge systemic abuses in criminal law enforcement.
•The ACLU seeks a dynamic litigator for the Criminal Law Reform Project to develop and pursue impact litigation and advocacy aimed at challenging systemic abuses in the administration and enforcement of criminal law.
•This role focuses on matters across the criminal system, with an emphasis on biased and abusive police practices.
•Key Responsibilities Litigate in state and federal courts, including drafting pleadings, engaging in discovery, and conducting trials and appeals.
•Provide legal and strategic advice to affiliates and partners.
•Advance ACLU policy goals through public education and advocacy.
•Collaborate with staff across the organization and engage in communications and media.
•Assist in mentoring junior staff, fellows, and interns.
•Requirements J.D. degree.
•Admitted to the New York Bar or agree to become admitted within one year of hire.
•Demonstrated civil litigation experience and aptitude.
•Ability to conduct thorough fact-finding and investigation.
•Skilled in working with litigation and/or project teams.
•Deep familiarity with and commitment to criminal and racial justice.
•Excellent legal analytical, research, and writing skills.
