About the role

TL;DR

Develop and lead research programs to understand neural codes and build theoretical frameworks for brain modeling.

  • Astera Neuro is seeking Computational Neuroscientists to develop and lead research programs focused on understanding neural codes underlying perception, thought, and behavior.
  • This role involves building new theoretical frameworks for how the brain models the world using unprecedented scale and quality of neural data.
  • Key Responsibilities Build models of compositional neural representation and coupled dynamical-systems models of brain area interactions.
  • Analyze fixed-point structures and sculpt inputs for steerable systems via optogenetic and electrical stimulation.
  • Stitch data across subjects and species into foundation models of neural activity.
  • Propose and design new experiments to sharply separate competing models.
  • Abstract computational principles into new NeuroAI architectures.
  • Requirements Demonstrated ability to lead computational or theoretical research projects end-to-end.
  • Depth in dynamical systems, including fixed-point and attractor analysis.
  • Strong computational skills in Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, JAX).
  • Hands-on experience analyzing large-scale neural datasets (electrophysiology, imaging).
  • Ability to work closely with experimental neuroscientists and engineers.
