About the role

TL;DR

Lead human neuroscience studies using intracranial recordings to decipher neural codes.

  • Astera Neuro is establishing a human neuroscience initiative to collect and analyze intracranial data at scale, focusing on understanding the neural codes underlying perception, thought, and behavior.
  • This role will lead large-scale studies in neurosurgical patients, analyzing single-neuron recordings to decipher compositional representations.
  • Key Responsibilities Design and implement intracranial cognitive paradigms for language, mathematics, perception, and working memory.
  • Process and analyze single-neuron and population recordings from the human brain.
  • Coordinate with clinical collaborators and manage study setup and data collection.
  • Implement advanced computational neuroscience methods for large-scale datasets.
  • Contribute to open-science data releases and share tools, data, and discoveries.
  • Requirements Hands-on experience with human intracranial electrophysiology (sEEG, ECoG, microelectrode arrays).
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement cognitive paradigms in clinical research populations.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, fluent in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Deep understanding of advanced concepts for population-level analysis of neural representations.
  • PhD or MD/PhD with 8-12+ years of relevant experience.
