About the role

TL;DR

Design and lead neuroscience research programs to understand and modulate brain functions.

  • Astera Neuro is seeking Experimental Neuroscientists to develop and lead research programs aimed at understanding how the brain models the physical world, forms new thoughts, and creates a stable model of the self.
  • The goal is to achieve enough understanding and technical ability to precisely and reversibly modulate these functions through write-in experiments.
  • Key Responsibilities Design behavioral paradigms and execute large-scale neural recording experiments.
  • Design and execute causal perturbation experiments targeting percepts, thoughts, and internal states.
  • Analyze datasets to support stable, brain-wide, single-neuron-resolution representations.
  • Collaborate with computational, engineering, and software teams.
  • Contribute to publications, talks, and open data releases.
  • Requirements Hands-on experience with chronic, multi-area, large-scale electrophysiology in awake, behaving animals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a systems neuroscience project end to end.
  • Strong quantitative and computational skills, with fluency in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience with optogenetic, electrical, or other causal perturbation methods.
