About the role
TL;DR
Build and operate the S3-compatible API gateway for Cloudflare's R2 object storage platform.
- •The R2 Gateway team owns the request-facing layer of Cloudflare's R2 object storage platform, handling S3-compatible API requests.
- •This role involves building and operating systems that manage authentication, routing, rate limiting, and coordination for high-throughput, low-latency access at global scale.
- •Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and operate the S3-compatible API gateway for R2.
- •Build and operate production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes.
- •Own the request path end to end, including interfaces with storage and metadata layers.
- •Continuously improve reliability, performance, and observability of the gateway.
- •Participate in on-call rotations and drive incident resolution.
- •Requirements Strong programming skills in Rust, TypeScript, Go, or similar languages.
- •Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems with low latency and high reliability requirements.
- •Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts like object storage, API gateways, or edge computing.
- •Understanding of reliability and observability practices.
